Snug
I remembered the last time I tried communicating with a human. My ‘mighty shake’ had no effect. Still, if I was advised to ‘ask them’ then maybe that means communication is possible. So I decided to try again.
“What makes you so great?” I thought I asked, quietly.
It seemed as though time froze, the human didn’t respond but I sensed a change in my fabric. My perch was getting exceedingly warm at an alarming rate and there was a clear vibration of frustration emanating from my friend.
Then in sequence, a shriek, a grab, and a toss. I was thrown into the air just as a gust of wind blew by, the breeze cradled me in its current and plopped me down somewhere not as close to my human; I know because mere moments later I could feel the reverberations of my human’s foot steps as it jogged towards me.
I was ceremoniously placed back on my perch. My enhanced senses returned and I heard my human think.
“Sorry about that, I’ve never been spoken to by…one of you. It shouldn’t be possible that you can speak. Yet.. I heard what I heard.”
“I’m sure others have spoken and been heard before, this wasn’t my idea. Though we aren’t speaking, I’m communicating directly with your mind… Where are we, did I disturb something? ”
“Well you disturbed my sense of self respect. Thousands of people just watched me have some type of conniption, and I can never tell them why.”
