What's Left When We Leave
Big snap right
Frozen fright
Nearby boulders
Rain slick peaks
We reached their tops
In
Single
Leaps
The ground it rumbled
Beneath our feet
Quick search.
Discovered
A Felled Tree
It leaned
It rested
Now a scaling ladder
No more a tree
Oh may we, in the end
Be like this tree
When we tip
Become the brace
Below our scaffolds
The earth will quake
And shake and rumble
Forever changed by our legacies' weight
A slope of shoulders and our backs
Will pave for them a path; ascent
By us buoyed,
propelled to heights,
we couldn’t reach,
to witness what we’ll never see.
