Great piece, Reginald! I especially like how you interact with your kids, making them think about their words. A lot of us grew up on "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." Who actually came up with that? Clearly they had no understanding of "The pen is mightier than the sword." Words are very powerful, and wounds often last a lifetime if we don't work to untangle them, aka forgive.
Like Kristi, my recorder would be full of praise and funny comments to my cat! But the idea is fascinating, and the awareness is absolutely step #1.
First of all, a recorder in my house wouldn't capture much. I live alone. All I say all day long is "You're the best...." talking to my dog lol.
As far as trigger words, you're right...people need to read the room and learn their audiences before using questionable words or phrases. The word junkie is a huge trigger to me. Or using the word crackhead in a joking way. To some of us, it's not a joke because we've watched people destroy themselves through addiction.

Thank you Kate! I'm happy to hear that your home also has good vibes. It's a good thing when our homes are our havens.
I agree with you about the power of words. It's a great thing to remember.

It sounds like your home has good vibes! I completely understand your read the room reference.
Stupid, that’s definitely one of my trigger words
Katherine, are you referring to when it is used toward a person or any time? Like, "This situation is stupid." Would that trigger you?
Good question, towards people. Especially one of my kiddos telling the other they are stupid. That’s a full stop.
100% full stop.
